Year 5 Students Enjoy some Japanese Culture

Published 21 May 2026

Our Year 5 students had the opportunity to have a Japanese dance workshop. We were fortunate to invite 2 Japanese instructors to teach us Yosakoi which is a highly energetic style of traditional dance with modernised music for Yosakoi festival. This choreographed dance is usually danced in a large team and a popular performance during the festivals.

In this workshop, the students have been learnt the movements step by step at the start. They were also introduced to Naruko (bird rattle) and happi costume.

All in all, the students enjoyed dancing along with the music and had a fantastic experience to become familiar with one great form of Japanese culture.
